375 ml pitted dates 1 ½ cups
175 ml water ¾ cup
2 apples, peeled and coarsely grated
375 ml Western Family whole wheat flour 1 ½ cups
375 ml Western Family quick cooking oats 1 ½ cups
175 ml brown sugar ¾ cup
10 ml cinnamon 2 tsp
175 ml Western Family butter ¾ cup
  1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C). Prepare an 8x8" square pan by spraying with non-stick cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the dates and water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and mash dates. Remove from heat and stir in apples
  3. In medium bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar and cinnamon. Cut in the butter to form a crumbly mixture.
  4. Spread half of the flour mixture into the pan. Top with the apple-date mixture. Cover with the remaining flour mixture. Pat down. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.
